Can objects be brands? We believe so. “Nothing is irrelevant… everything can be used”. These words by artist Claes Oldenburg inform how we look at everyday objects, and what they can mean as brands. The mundane can be rearranged to become something new and unexpected.
Alterity believes it is time to examine what it means to transfigure the ordinary into the mythical. Such transfiguration can happen through the power of image reproduction alone, as seen in the case of the Shanzai. This space of mediation reveals that fresh, subversive culture can be hidden in plain site.
